This historic 75-kilometre hiking route runs along old border fortifications and offers insights into the past of a divided nation. <strong>Sometimes on cosy paths, sometimes on the concrete slabs of the colonnade path<\/strong>. The Harzklub has signposted the entire route. Information boards provide information about biotopes worthy of protection and historical sites along the way. The Berghotel Hohegei\u00df is the ideal stopover during your adventure on this unique route. Remember to order a packed lunch, as there are no refreshment stops along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Stage: Walkenried - Hohegei\u00df<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This stage of the Harz Border Trail begins in Walkenried and ends in the mountain village of Hohegei\u00df. The beautiful hike is <strong>18.2 kilometres<\/strong> long and takes about <strong>5 hours<\/strong>. It can be ideally combined with a visit to the <strong>Cistercian Museum Walkenried Monastery<\/strong> and the <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Centre Walkenried<\/strong> connect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jagdschloss-harz.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our accommodation recommendation for Walkenried is the <strong>Walkenried hunting lodge<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Stage: Braunlage - Hohegei\u00df<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This stage of the Harz Border Trail runs from Braunlage to Hohegei\u00df. The route is <strong>13.5 kilometres<\/strong> long and takes about <strong>3 hours and 45 minutes<\/strong>. On the way you come to the <strong>Ring of remembrance<\/strong> and on <strong>Open-air border museum<\/strong> over. You can also visit the charming <strong>Sorge railway station building<\/strong>which houses a small border museum (open from <strong>01.05. - 02.11.2024<\/strong>Wednesdays and Saturdays from <strong>11:00 to 16:00<\/strong>).
